From Adolescence to Adulthood
Adulting is defined by Urban dictionary as “carrying out one or more of the duties and responsibilities expected of fully developed individuals/adults”. However, I’ve grown to see it as a transitional period in one’s life. A path that all of us, regardless of our genders, sexualities, ethnicities or religions, must take. Now, all these paths might look different, but they all lead to the same place, adulthood.
It is in this crucial time in our lives where we learn the most important and life changing lessons. This is a path where we enter as children and emerge as adults. Adults who become fully responsible for themselves and are no longer minors or dependents under “mom and dad”.
However, there exists a very evident gap between the two worlds, leading to a very rigorous time in one's life. It is therefore vital to share lessons and experiences we find to be enlightening and interesting. Social media gives us the platform to be able to discuss various topics that come up in one's search for life answers, and lets us know that the struggles of integrating into university life or adulthood are shared by others.
Please engage with me. Comment on my posts and tell me what you agree with, what you disagree with and what other experiences and/or lessons you’ve learnt and felt were the most important in helping you develop into the person you are today. In the words of Mike Pettigrew “The greatest crime is to learn something that can significantly benefit other people, yet share it with no one.”
