From 20 somethings to $10B

From 20 somethings to $10B

Such a sunny day while we become a Hitachi Group company today. And such an awesome journey.

Being the longest serving Globyte today, I feel almost privileged (almost compelled) to walk down the memory lane of how we reached where we are. I also mean this as a tribute to a lot of people for mine has been a career of mentors and coaches and friends - a part of each of whom I carry with me always!

By no means a small feat. We were a company of 20-odd 20-somethings operating right out of an office in front of the Okhla Sabzi Mandi. When I joined coming from D E Shaw, I was like do i stay or walk back!

But we always were the daredevils we are today. Born around the 2000 dot com bust, we were served hot maggi and sandwiches at 4pm and then at 12am! Ensured there was no dearth of calories while we toiled round the clock - Sajal, Sumeet and Hitesh and Amit will confirm it was pretty usual for a lot of us to pool back home at 4am.

Peter, Rajul, Tarun and Umesh ensured we were and stayed a flat organization. Whether we were shooting for 50M in 2007 or for a billion in 2020!

We were doing distributed agile in 2006 with Derek and Par3. Mayank ensured that we had 400 certified scrum masters even then! Deepak was reviewing a "microservices-like" platform design even in 2009!

The coming over of Shashank started a new era - focussed on growth with a soul. He said, "If not now then when" and the world marched to our tune.

Mohammad Soleimani, my favourite CTO, would hopefully support my claim that we spoke of and executed "digital transformation" back then in 2010. While people were struggling with their access cards, we were already going hands free. And Klarissa will hopefully agree that we were instrumental in creating the most downloaded retail app of 2015!

Albert and Martin would hopefully agree that we have played our role in the wonderful transformation journeys of Pearson and Hilti! And Vishal would not look with scorn if I say we helped Datacard secure more passports and credit cards than ever.

From Sequoia to Apax to CPPIB to Partners Group, we remained the blue eyed company to every investor who worked with us. From Lambent to Bonus Tech to Method, we have acquired only to make new friends and find excuses to visit exotic locales!

Zaheer, Vasu, Milind and Jim led the way on how we could do business transformation without battling an eyelid. Sunil and Shashi laid the corner bricks to the new GlobalLogic that stands tall today.

Nandini, Iti and Rajiv ensured that we industrialize what we learn. Arya and Ruchi ensured we look good. Manu and Suhail added the tech zing while Shraddha added the people spice to the tale! Kunal and Alok ensured we were always in good hands. And Dharmendra - one foot in India and another in the US ensure we kept hiring the villages we always needed!

Reema and Method ensured we did not just code, we did that with a soul. And Bipul helped setup Aadya so we get the India Design skills on the world map.

Paddy, Rohit, Ajit, Jijo and Rajesh are helping us charter the next wave of growth. While Sajal, Sumeet, Pawan, Jakir, Sunil and Nishant have been buddies you could trust your life with!

Sumit coming on board was the right kind of drug we needed - for walking fast and walking together. And we entered a constant 30% growth rhythm even at the scale we were. Neeru did to people practices what only she could - get us rightfully into the Great Place to Work!

And then we had Nitesh - if I was proud of the hours I could work with focus, he quickly cleared off the notion :). And if a billion was what we were talking of, he just added a small multiplier!

And there we are today. Valued at close to 10 billion, from scratch in 20 years flat. Part of an $80 billion company we have always looked at in awe. Can we combine the power of Hitachi with the transformation spirit we are proud of? Can we paint a masterpiece on the canvas we have been offered?

We will live to see the tale. For now, we rejoice and roll ahead! Come over, we are making our jungle larger by the day!
