Frigid Temps
Some of the coldest weather of the year has crept into several parts of the country over the last few days. Unfortunately and inevitably, pipe breaks go hand in hand with sub freezing temperatures. Sometimes pipes will break as soon as they freeze but sometimes it will take a couple of days to thaw out before you see the effects. Keep an eye out for water stains on ceilings or puddles on the floor. Sometimes leaks start very slow as the ice starts melting and then will suddenly spray out quickly once the ice blockage moves through the pipe. Since many businesses and offices have had people working remotely due to the COVID 19 pandemic, many work areas have been either vacant or scarcely used. Pay special attention to areas like this because leaks may go unnoticed for some time and significant water damage can occour. Check for open windows, open doors, and vents which could allow cold air to creep in. In this case an ounce of prevention could prevent a pound of cure. If you do experience of water damage, remember Signal restoration is here to help! Keep warm and safe out there.

4 年Excellent read. There are many ways to decrease the risk of winter claims from water intrusion but in the event a loss occurs a professional IICRC certified mitigation company should always be the first call. An experienced company, like Signal Restoration, can prevent damage to the structure, contents, and save the home or business owner time and money. Keep up the excellent work!

4 年The risk increases in the far south where residential pipes may be in exterior walls, lawn sprinklers are just a couple of inches underground, and boat engines may not be drained of water. It can be a mess.
