"Friends verses LinkedIn"?

"Friends verses LinkedIn"

“Friendship is the hardest thing in the world to explain. It’s not something you learn in school. But if you haven’t learned the meaning of friendship, you really haven’t learned anything.” - Muhammad Ali

I saw a friend that I hadn't seen in over 25 years. It was so nice to see him again and to be able to catch up on old times and new times. His smile and personality just lit up the room like it used too. That's my friend that I remembered. We spoke a while about things we missed in each other's lives and our friends lives. We couldn't believe so much time had passed and everything we had missed. For me, it was hard to imagine so much had gotten away from us and life still went on. We still led full complete lives. The one amazing aspect about friends is that when a friend goes away even for 25 years and you see them again, their still your friend.

Now I bet you're wondering what does friends and LinkedIn have in common, other than most of us make good friends here? Well, LinkedIn's algorithm is sort of meeting an old friend that you haven't seen in a long time BUT they've changed. In my case, my friend was the good old friend he used to be. Our dear old friend, LinkedIn decided to "update(d) its algorithm to generate more engagement on each users' posts after it found that people weren't posting updates as often because the algorithm had too heavily emphasized content from top creators."(1)

LinkedIn admits changing the algorithm so people in your network see your posts more often is a very difficult and challenging one but they claim, they have been working on this since late 2018.

"Since implementation, LinkedIn says it's seeing a more diverse range of content appearing in feeds, while creators are also returning to post again at a higher rate."(1)

Now what does that mean to us? Well, I think we need to realize that this is a process and something that may take a lot of time to do. Just like seeing my friend again after 25 years, will we stay in contact? I don't know! When is the next I will see him again? I don't know! So it's sort of like your news feed. If you want to stay in contact with a specific person, you might just have to go to their profile and just read their articles and posts, otherwise, it might be a few months, maybe years before you see their posts!

Very Interesting read Stacey. The best thing about these platforms is that they help you to optimize your social network and preexisting contact into a meaningful relation.
