Friends with ADHD - creating an ADHD-friendly group course

In just two weeks Suzy Jackson ??????? and I are running our first Friends with ADHD course. We've put a lot into making it a course we’d love to join, and having done LOTS of un-ADHD-friendly training we genuinely believe we've curated the ultimately ADHD-friendly course.

5 ways Friends with ADHD is actually ADHD-friendly:

1. We’ve created a group course...

There is nothing like taking to people with ADHD who get it unmasked.

More brains are better than one - struggling alone is hard and different views = more ideas. Our course will have the power of group thinking.

Feeling lonely is rubbish, and that's how I felt during my ADHD journey, so in this course we can help people realise they aren’t alone!?

We believe sharing is caring. Often in group coaching people will share on the outside what you feel on the inside and that’s magic.?

If you haven’t done group coaching before here’s what to expect:

  1. We'll talk about an ADHD topic: e.g getting an ADHD diagnosis as an adult
  2. There will be verified information: for example -adults were only diagnosed in 2008, and it’s estimated globally around 1 in 20 people have ADHD.
  3. We'll share our experiences: I only realised I had ADHD aged 32, which came as a surprise, as I’d always just thought I was a hot mess.
  4. AND what’s helped! Learning about ADHD, talking to others and being kinder to myself have all been things which have helped.

2. There will be separate learning sessions and discussion sessions.?

In many ADHD talks it can feel like questions are rushed, and there isn't enough time to digest the information before asking questions.?

So to give people time to process information AND have time for Q&A and discussions we're running two sessions a week.

Learning sessions and discussion sessions:

Learning sessions: are where we’ll share info and experiences:

  • Talking through slides with facts?
  • Present information visually?- probably some memes and infographics
  • Share real life examples
  • Give you space to think about info and take notes in sessions?

Discussion sessions: with time for Q&A and sharing:

  • Space for people to share general thoughts and experiences on learnings
  • Q&A (Suzy and I will answer)
  • Breakout rooms where people can share experiences
  • Guided support and ADHD coaching by Suzy and I ?

3. You won't need to remember all the information

Honestly, this will be as much for our benefit as yours!

  • Learning sessions will be recorded: so if you zone out during a session you can watch them on catch up.?
  • Learning sessions will be transcribed - so if you prefer to read or listen to sessions, you can take in the information in your preferred way.?
  • Everyone gets a workbook with all the information you need including worksheets and exercises, so you don’t need to worry about taking notes.?

?4. There'll be no surprises

We’ve got ADHD and appreciate structure too, so we’ll share everything ahead of time in the course workbook so you know what to expect.

In our course workbook we’ll give you an outline of the agenda and topic for each session and rough timings - so you know what to expect.?We do have ADHD so can't guarantee we'll stay 100% on topic, but will try our best!

In our course we’ll give you what it says on the tin.?

? 4 x learning sessions on Tuesdays at 6pm - information sessions

? 4 x discussion sessions on Fridays at 1pm - talking sessions + Q&A

? Community group chat for thoughts and questions between sessions

? Expert support throughout the course from Suzy Jackson ??????? and I

? Small group (less than 20) so the course is tailored to the group

No surprises means we'll stay on track too as an added bonus!

5. We're giving you support you need, because we've been in your shoes

Suzy and I have been through the ADHD diagnosis process - post-diagnosis crisis and beyond and we worked out the two things which made the biggest difference.

Making friends with our ADHD brains: we did this by learning about ADHD, giving ourselves self-compassion, and making our world more ADHD-friendly.

Making NEW Friends with ADHD: connecting with others with ADHD, to share experiences, feel less alone and share ideas.

So this is WHY we've created this course - to help you to Make Friends with ADHD too!

If you've got this far - you know we're REALLY passionate about this program and would love to have you join us!. If you want to join the party you can ??

If we EVER do anything that looks like a load of black words on a white powerpoint slide, with a seventeen minute monologue, you have my permission to sack me. From my own business. And never speak to me again.
