Friend or foe? How to really plug your career into AI.
How do we smoothly adjust to the disruptor?

Friend or foe? How to really plug your career into AI.

It can be tricky to establish a smooth relationship with new technology — especially when it’s so earth-shatteringly disruptive as ChatGPT.

As a recruiter in the tech industry, I’m naturally very interested in exploring the potential of such a revolutionary technology. How can it make me more productive? What does it mean for my clients and candidates and their jobs??

When the chatbot arrived on the scene late last year, commentators were calling it the “tipping point” for AI and an arms race of sorts was launched amongst the heavy hitters to quickly get rivals to market.

Incredibly, just two months after launch, ChatGPT had 590 million visits from 100 million users in January. One UBS analyst said it was the fastest ramp-up he’d seen in 20 years of internet trend monitoring.

So, how do we practically integrate our jobs with AI?

AI isn’t exactly a new concept when it comes to finding efficiencies on the business front. But ChatGPT made everyone sit up and notice the power and potential of generative AI.

So, like many of you, I’ve been looking at how AI can positively impact my own job. From what I can tell, some of the specific benefits to the recruitment process include:?

  • Fast-tracking candidates with applicable skills: I can receive hundreds of applications in a month, so filtering out non-applicable skills saves time for both me and my clients and candidates. It means the quicker I can identify a short-list of potential candidates, the more time I can commit to finding the best fit.
  • Sourcing passive candidates: AI programs can help identify potential candidates through matching skills and experience who may be ready to look for new opportunities and prompt them to throw their hat in the ring.
  • Well-informed chat bots: I love interacting with my candidates and clients, but I’m not always available immediately to answer questions. Well-versed chatbots can help fill the gap by providing instant responses.

But there are also areas AI will have a hard time replacing in recruitment, like:

  • Person-to-person contact: Identifying insights with soft skills and personality traits is one thing AI won’t easily replicate. Cultural fit is sometimes as important as qualifications when it comes to placing a candidate in the right job.
  • Building relationships: One of my favourite parts of doing this job is the connections and networks I’ve built over the years. The camaraderie and genuine interactions I have with people across the Salesforce ecosystem (and everywhere else) will never become replaceable (I doubt ChatGPT would be much fun at Christmas parties).

Einstein has entered the chat: Salesforce and AI

Salesforce has been backing an AI future for years now.?

They’ve incorporated AI into products like Marketing Cloud, Service Cloud, and Sales Cloud to help businesses automate tasks, make more informed decisions, and provide a better experience for customers.

The company has been teasing a release of its own ChatGPT rival, EinsteinGPT. From all reports, it’s being positioned as a lead generator and deal closer that can write reports with a sense of humour too apparently!?

(Side note: Salesforce has promised more details at Trailblazer DX on March 7, so stay tuned.)

On the Trailblazer side of things, one consideration is how the onset of ChatGPT-type tools might change how certifications are achieved. Things are certainly moving quickly.?

Robots make humans more productive?

The theme that continues to orbit this debate is how AI will free up more time for higher value tasks.?

I’m not concerned about AI cannibalising jobs. There’s enough information and analysis out there to show it will be an evolution in how we work. If someone told me that there was a tool that could take away the low-value, repetitive admin-based tasks that suck up so much of my time, I’d be crazy not to jump at the opportunity!

So, if you're thinking about making a move yourself or you’re just interested to know what roles are out there right now , reach out (to a real human) to chat about one of the many opportunities we currently have open.

Also, with Salesforce’s World Tour heading to Sydney on March 1, AI is sure to be a topic of hot discussion. So don’t forget to register today so you can catch the latest industry perspectives and developments.?

Who knows? With a constant stream of new tech changing the face of the industry, maybe you’ll uncover an insight that will change your career trajectory.
