? Passed over for the Herbert Smith training programme ??

? Dumped by a very hot Aussie at his parents’ house ??

? Ostracised at work for standing my ground ??

Had I not been rejected from Nottingham, I’d have never gone to Warwick Uni and learned the practical side of law. Had I been offered a position with Herbert Smith, I’d have never gone to Norton Rose and been trained by some of my most precious mentors. Had I moved to Australia, I’d have never gone in-house, worked across Africa and held a global position in the commodities legal world. Had I never stood my ground, I’d still be involved in office politics and heavily conflicted by my values.

We spend a lot of time looking at those closed doors; trying to re-open them, trying to understand why they closed; and feeling rejected, dejected, used and misunderstood.

But rejection is rarely about you. Sometimes it's about numbers. Sometimes timing. Sometimes it's about being on different pages. Sometimes it's because you risk breaking the status quo. But it’s rarely about you personally.

So if you are currently looking at a closed door and feeling pretty low as a result, try turning around and looking at what new doors have opened ?????????????? that door closed.
