2016, Solar Impulse 2 completes first round-the-world solar powered flight.?
?? Happy Friday!
On this day, July 26, 2016, Solar Impulse 2 completed its historic round-the-world solar-powered flight, showcasing the potential of renewable energy and innovation. Piloted by Bertrand Piccard and André Borschberg, Solar Impulse 2 embarked on its journey on March 9, 2015, from Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Over the course of 16 months, the aircraft travelled more than 26,098 miles, making stops in various countries, including Oman, India, Myanmar, China, the United States, and Europe. The journey was fraught with challenges, including extreme weather conditions and technical difficulties. However, the determination and resilience of the team behind Solar Impulse 2 exemplified the spirit of human ingenuity. The aircraft itself was a marvel of engineering, equipped with 17,248 solar cells, four electric motors, and a wingspan greater than that of a Boeing 747, all designed to harness solar energy for flight. The successful round-the-world flight of Solar Impulse 2 stands as a testament to human ingenuity and the relentless pursuit of innovation, demonstrating the potential of renewable energy. This journey also underscored the importance of collaboration and innovation in addressing global challenges, particularly climate change.
? Bertrand Piccard told us, “People put limitations on their creativity, believing they have to rely on what they know and what they have done.” The Solar Impulse venture dramatically demonstrated that it’s possible to make a sharp break with the past and change the future. Leaders of change start by articulating a clear, inspiring vision that goes beyond immediate goals to align and motivate their team throughout the change journey. They balance meticulous planning with adaptability, maintaining flexibility to pivot when faced with unexpected challenges or opportunities. Change leaders foster resilience by viewing setbacks as learning opportunities and inspiring their team to persevere through difficulties. Leaders of change build diverse, cross-functional teams to leverage varied expertise and perspectives, driving innovation and problem-solving. Through their leadership of change excellence, they break down large transformations into manageable phases, inspiring incremental progress to maintain motivation and momentum. Change Leaders Continuously Learn and Innovate.
“Visionary change leaders plan meticulously, fostering collaboration and resilience. They inspire teams to innovate, learn from setbacks, and inspire incremental progress towards transformation”?
?? Develop Leadership of Change Excellence or Fail: The Solar Impulse 2 project demonstrates the power of visionary leadership and innovation in overcoming seemingly insurmountable challenges. Similarly, organisations must cultivate excellence in change leadership to thrive in today’s rapidly evolving landscape. The consequences of failed organisational change are clear and significant. As change accelerates, the need for effective leadership in change management becomes critical. Organisations must adapt and transform to survive. Change initiatives should drive progress, not lead to costly failures. The impact of ineffective change management is felt in financial losses, low morale, stagnation, and a weakened competitive edge. Initiatives intended to foster growth can turn into elaborate charades, draining resources and leading to unforeseen pitfalls. The repercussions include financial strain, employee disengagement, loss of competitive advantage, operational chaos, reputational damage, innovation stagnation, talent loss, shareholder unrest, cultural decline, and alienation of external stakeholders. These are the harsh realities organisations face when they fail to lead change effectively.
