Friday Thoughts: What do you want to be known for?
The title of my Friday Thoughts article this week was my response to the final question posed at the?#IWW2023?keynote panel hosted by?Invest Ottawa?and sponsored by?BDC?and?L-SPARK. Host?Michelle Younes?asked, what final message do you want to leave with the audience today?
Please fast forward to 1:28:06 to hear my response.
"It's important that you think about what you want to be known for. Define what it is you want for yourself, long-term (the long game). There's tactically what you're doing today, but what journey are you on? When you're not in the room, and they're talking about you, what are they saying?"
This statement resonated with many people. To those of you who came up to me at the even and to the many that sent messages here on LinkedIn and directly. Thank you for letting me know that this hit home. What makes my days fulfilling is helping people and I'm glad my response was helpful.
You may be an engineer, a marketer, in operations, etc. Those words don't tell me anything about what you are known for. I know that my colleague?Martin Cain?is a technical innovator (engineer), and?Shea Cole?is an expert at scaling a brand (marketer). I'm a revenue and profitability fixer (sales and operations).
Only you control what people think of related to you, when you're not in the room. It's what you do and how you conduct yourself daily, over time, that creates the narrative for others. Being known for something doesn't mean the road will be smooth or easy. It never is, but it makes the journey more enjoyable when your curiosity and passions become your trademark.

I love complex problem-solving, and when it's related to helping people, I am dialled in to figure it out. That's the definition of a fixer.
What do you want to be known for?
The song of the week is dedicated all the fixers out there. It's one of the best songs pop songs ever written.?#turnitup
Enjoy. Have a great weekend. Be kind.
