The Friday Thing #885
Last week's orders for stickers are being processed :)
The Friday Thing 885 comes the end of a week where I have been searching for inspiration on a project I am involved in.
It has meant piling high a ton of magazines and flicking through them for idea. I was not disappointed. It also had me looking back through previous editions of The Friday Thing and reminding myself about books such as the Hiut yearbook and websites that have offered me inspiration over the last couple of years. It also reminded me of this photo I took back in December in New York as I walked past the Paul Smith shop in Soho.
Sir Paul - spot on as usual, and I love nothing more than dropping in to one of his stores as they're always full of inspiration too. And of course, he has a book that is literally titled You Can Find Inspiration in Everything - (And If You Can't, Look Again). It's a lovely book and I highly recommend it.
Which brings me to an unusual point of inspiration I stumbled across this week in the form of fire hydrant. Yes, fire hydrants.
This is a fire hydrant in my neighborhood in Seattle.
I've not seen it in real life but will replace the image above with a fresh snap this weekend because I plan to head to East Union and Bolyston Ave to see it. I only know it exists due to The Hydrant Directory.
This magical website from Day Lane is a free design resource created from public infrastructure. Each hydrant has been processed into color palettes for free use by artists and designers. Because, as Sir Paul says - You Can Find Inspiration in Everything. Even your neighbourhood fire hydrants.
That's all for this week. A reminder to look up, look around and always carry a notebook ;)
Music for the weekend is Seventeen Going Under by Sam Fender.
Happy Friday
cheers,
Steve

5 天å‰If Sir Paul says inspiration is everywhere, even fire hydrants deserve their Abbey Road moment!(And here’s one in full Paul Smith style from Designer.. 10/10 ?)
