The Friday Thing #881
What a whirlwind week...I'm en-route back from NYC so typing in the air again.
The Friday Thing 881 is a topic I think about a lot and can be summarized as "When the world zigs. Zag". Which is precisely the summary of a post by Alex Murrell that I deeply wish I had written.
It's titled The age of average and was written almost a year ago. It captures something that has been on my mind for the last few months as I think about the world of communications, the decline in trust in media and the difficulty in breaking through in a sea of noise.
Somewhere in that noise, people (me at least) crave signal and I think a lot about what means for our work at Microsoft as communicators. It's maybe odd to think that inspiration can be found in a wind tunnel or via AirBnB but Alex's post served as great mind fuel with these topics. And the term "blanding" - well that's just communications gold.
Anyway, I will not explain more other than to say it's a great read - and has some excellent visuals to support the storytelling. Ahem.
I'll have more to share on what this all means in the coming months - and for those watching, you will no doubt see the breadcrumbs here. It's going to be fun.
Music for this week is Pacific State by 808 State for the simple reason that it ought to have been last week's song. Thanks for the tip on that, Donard.
That's all for this week. Happy Friday folks and hello weekend!
