The Friday Thing #749
Hello Friday…
The Friday Thing #749 is a relatively short edition this week after a few weeks of lengthy editions. Just a few thought-provoking things this week, I hope.
I’m a sucker for a good quote and have been reading a book recently that is a really good collection of them around themes such as creativity, failure, love, identity and more.?This first page below is one that really hit home for me as I think it’s a lot of what my job is about at times – about ideation, and helping others to plant seeds, for me to water, to feed and to nurture them and see them grow. Not all do of course, but that is the nature of planting and the nature of growth and the nature of ideas.?
This second set of quotes is just a lovely collection of 3 perfect quotes (to me) on a single page. I especially like the one around vision as it’s really about conviction and many times, that is half the battle (assuming you have done the work to really think through your vision). People don’t just believe in ideas – they believe in ideas that have conviction. I don’t know if I fully agree with the Sam Mendes quote about right/wrong – but I like it. And the Tom Ford quote. Well, yes. Someone once told me that I “collect people” which I didn’t really like because it sounded like it was arbitrary and some kind of causal sport. I think what they were really referring to is that I cherish having a wide and varied network of friends across many, many disciplines who have and continued to inspire me. They are a constant source of ideas. Of seeds. And I love that.?

2 年Hard to argue with, and there’s nothing wrong with collecting people, because we are all part of someone else’s collection, aren’t we? - mh

2 年Love the way you refer to ideas as seeds. I always say that marketing is a seed, not a slot machine.
