The Friday Thing #737

Run your own race was a popular topic last week - thanks for the feedback.

The Friday Thing #737?was going to be about collisions - not the road accident kind, the people kind. I am reading a book about culture at the moment and love the notion of collisions that the author talks about. It's a big part of what I enjoy at work and online - both finding and making the right collisions happen. However, I need to deepen my thinking on collisions a bit more before I write about it, so more on that soon.

In the meantime, today is a day off work for me (OOF as we say at Microsoft) and I aiming to use the time to read, ride, attend to some family business and give myself room to find creative inspiration. That's the plan anyway....

And with that in mind, I thought I'd free myself from writing and share one of my favourite lists of late with you. It's "100 ways to slightly improve your life without really trying" from The Guardian. There are some real gems here and I'll point out a few I love:

  • 6?Everyone has an emotional blind spot when they fight. Work out what yours is, and remember it.
  • 15?Keep your children’s drawings and paintings. Put the best ones in frames.
  • 24?Start a Saturday morning with some classical music – it sets the tone for a calm weekend.
  • 31?Ask questions, and listen to the answers.
  • 57?Every so often, search your email for the word “unsubscribe” and then use it on as many as you can.
  • 79?Ignore the algorithm – listen to music outside your usual taste.
  • 96?Keep a book in your bag to avoid the temptation to doomscroll.

The list is UK biased but there are plenty of things you can swap out such as the recommended donations, or milk delivery.

I'm off for a walk with a book, per the guidance and will aim to have a collision on the way.

That's all for this week

Happy Friday
