The Friday Thing #688
The sun is (sort of) shining here in Seattle this morning and I managed to get in an early bike before the day really began….so we’re off to a good start here.
The Friday Thing #688 begins with music as both Terry and Rhonda reminded me that I have been remiss on adding some tunes. I added a few New Order classics to the Friday Thing playlist. Try starting your day – or any day – with Ceremony. The rest of this week’s edition is simply a collection of fun things, with a bit of a theme of around the world with music. No long reads this week ??
First up is I Miss My Bar which is step beyond last week’s LEGO White Noise. This is ‘white noise’ that includes a bartender working, people talking, a full room, rain on the window, night ambience, serving drinks and street ambience. I will say I miss about 90% of those things during Covid so you can now dial them in to your choice visa this fun website. They also happen to have a cool Spotify playlist on their site that is worth a listen too.
Something we will not miss from the pandemic are Covid signs – yet I admire this UK site that is cataloguing Pandemic Graphics as it’s both interesting (to me at least) and a useful historical archive. Check out the Pandemic Graphic Archive and feel free to add to it.
….who knows, maybe one day some of these artefacts will make their way in to the V&A Collection. I miss visiting places like the Victoria and Albert Museum but you can now tour their collection of 1.2 million objects digitally. It’s worth it just to admire the work of Alexander McQueen and Peter Saville.
Last up this week is my favourite new website. Drive and Listen is mesmerizingly good. The concept is simple – you ‘drive’ around cities while listening to their local radio stations. I dialed in London and spent the first 3 minutes working out which road I was driving down (Holborn) and longing to be able to stop the drive and pop in to Pret A Manger or Greggs. I was remined of just how slow traffic is in London, how many black cabs there are, how people just walk wherever they like, how majestic St. Paul’s Cathedral is and how close the ride took me to The 3 Kings pub and The Ned. Ahhhhh……..
That’s it for this week….try not to get too sucked in to Drive and Listen!
Cheers,

I am already hooked on both - the bar and the drive thingies.
