Friday Evening Tonic with Chacha

We hope we did not keep you waiting for long, we are back with the next part of our new series. Enjoyyyy.

Carol was relaxing one cool afternoon, she had a hectic morning and decided to just relax when she was done.

She had just put her toddler to sleep and called the maid to juice her a little pineapple, half lemon, and a few Ice cubes in it, the help brought the fresh Juice and she took a sip and closed her eyes to savour the goodness of the juice.

She was about to take a second sip when her phone rang, she picked it up and saw it was her husband calling, she smiled and answered the call, he said hello honey from his end and she said hello honey, how are you?

He said he was sorry to bother her but he needed her to please arrange a one-week travel bag for him as usual, his driver would come to the house to pick it up.

She said it's your normal routine to travel unannounced but I gladly pack your things.

They had a little conversation, he told her about the trip and promised to take her out once he got back, that she was overdue for a date night and some romantic spikes to keep her glowing, she kept blushing while he teased her. He ended the call with how much he loved her.

She drank her juice and went upstairs to get the bag ready. She brought out five dry-cleaned shirts, their suits, and singlets, she went to the wardrobe partition for boxers to get his boxers and noticed this big brown envelope.

She wondered what it was doing there, it should be in her husband's study, not in here. She dropped it on the bed and continued packing. She was almost done when she remembered, she didn't add any socks.

She went to the separate storage closet to get socks and she saw another big brown envelope, she said to herself since when did Ejiro start bringing documents into their bedroom? When his study is spacious enough.

She dropped it on the bed too and packed everything her husband would need for his trip including his passport.

She called the help to take it to the waiting room downstairs so the driver could pick it up from there.

She carried both envelopes to go drop them in her husband's study but on a second note she decided to read through the documents.

She opened the first one and found pictures of three cute boys. She brought out the remaining content of the envelope and didn't understand what or who the kids were and their mother.

She opened the second envelope and found photocopied documents, Birth certificate, National Identification Number, marriage certificate etc. She saw four passports.

She still didn't understand what the whole documents and passport were doing in her bedroom, then she opened the passport and saw they all had her husband's surname, she became confused and went back to read the marriage certificate and it was done on her.

Ejiro had a second family with three boys, she sat on the bed in shock, she sat there for hours, even when the kids came back from school and came to say hello, she didn't hear the sound of their knock, Ejiro's Driver came for the bag and Ejiro called to say thank you.

Her phone kept ringing and she sat there motionless, she couldn't cry or voice out any word, the help came to ask her if she should serve her Dinner, her toddler had been up for hours, and his Nanny kept her busy and fed him.

At about 5 pm, Ejiro called for the 20th time, he called the house line and the housekeeper answered and said Madam was upstairs, she had not left her room, Ejiro was worried and kept wondering if she was ok, she wouldn't pick up her call or return the calls.

He was about to board and tried one more time, she picked up her phone and looked at the caller and she started to sob, she sobbed bitterly. She carried both documents downstairs to her husband's study and dropped them on his desk.

She went to the safe, she knew the password but had never opened it because she had no reason to, everything she needed was at the top of her fingers, she didn't need the money there or documents. Ejiro has been true to her, he's always home when he's not traveling, when did this happen?

She opened the safe and found more truth about her husband's second family, she saw their traditional marriage pictures with his family members, siblings, and her mother-in-law, she held it to her chest and cried more.

She was lost and she said aloud Ejiro don't tell me you did this to me, I gave you my all and you still betrayed me, she took all the pictures and documents concerning his second family and dropped them on his desk.

Ejiro got to the UK and still couldn't reach Carol, he felt sick with apprehension and anger filled his heart, he kept wondering why Carol wouldn't take his calls or return them, is she sick? He asked the housekeeper to take the phone to her, and the housekeeper said, Madam is in the study with the doors wide open and she's watching her talk to him and she's crying.

Ejiro became more confused, he had meetings lined up for him till the early hours with his partners, he had a 45-minute meeting before midnight and a cocktail party, and the rest of the meetings for the next day were already lined up and Carol wouldn't talk to him.

Why was she crying? He couldn't fathom it, he went through the meeting with anxiety and thought he would be more relaxed during the cocktail party but he was agitated all through. He kept trying to reach Carol but she wouldn't take his calls.

He excused himself from the cocktail party, bid everyone goodnight, got to his hotel room, and tried calling Carol again, and still no answer, he called the house again, and the housekeeper said madam is still in the study, I can't leave her here, so I am waiting for her to leave so I can tidy up your office.

Ejiro became tenser then he said to himself, she had found out about Dumebi and the boys, his heart skipped and he lost his balance, he tried to get a hold of himself and he remembered the housekeeper said madam was in his study crying and also watching her answering his calls.

His Adrenaline pumped faster than normal, he went for his bottle of Macallan 1926 Scotch and drank it straight from the bottle and he screamed and screamed and burst into tears begging Carol to forgive him.

He sent a short message to Carol, he said “ I know you know the truth, I am deeply sorry” he held the scotch and cried more, then he went to bed since he had a long meeting scheduled for the next day.

It was time for the meeting and everyone was present except Ejiro, his assistant kept calling he wasn't answering his calls, she called the hotel, and they said he was still inside, he hadn't stepped out, everyone was worried, his assistant asked to be excused after briefing then he can't get a hold of his boss.

He decided to go to his hotel and get him to hurry up because he was more than 30 minutes late. He got there knocked and knocked no response, he went to get the manager of the hotel and asked for his help.

The manager came with the spare key, and after knocking a few times, he decided to open the door, to their surprise Ejiro was sleeping peacefully, still in his shirt from last night and his boxers, his assistant called out to him no response, he went close to him and tapped him, still no response.

He looked at the manager and said are you sure he's ok? They were perplexed, and they decided to lift him because he lay with his chest on the bed, he was so cold and the assistant felt him for a pulse, there was no pulse, the manager laid his head on his chest to feel if he was still breathing, there was no sign, they both looked at each other and the manager said he's dead. I think he died in his sleep.
