News & Updates:

NEW RIS-Partnerships International Coffee Breaks!

Working across disciplines and internationally is notoriously difficult and post pandemic we have fewer opportunities for fortuitous encounters that happen during coffee breaks between seminars – the kind of conversations that can, just sometimes lead to something really interesting.

Build your network by scheduling short, no-commitment, informal coffee breaks over video calls with researchers across disciplines in Scotland and Germany.

With current and upcoming joint research funding opportunities available from the DFG (German Research Foundation) and UK Funders, as well as our opportunity to engage with Horizon Europe, now is a great time to be making new connections with academics in Germany and seeding new collaborations.?

Open to all disciplines and all career stages!

Learn more about potential funding opportunities from the DFG by watching our seminar with the DFG on the?SULSA webpage.

Open call to appoint new OCEAN?Expert?Committee?members is now live!

Defra is looking for individuals from around the world who, as leaders in their field, can contribute at the highest levels and work effectively as part of the OCEAN?Expert?Committee. New members will join other marine and development?experts in providing high quality, specialist advice on which OCEAN project applications should receive funding.??

Members will be expected to:

  • assess and score applications against set criteria, to agreed timelines and standards, to enable Defra to award funding to high-quality projects;
  • provide strategic advice; and
  • champion the OCEAN Grants Programme

Applications from a wide range of backgrounds and global contexts are welcomed, including?the?private sector, academia and professional institutions, non-governmental organisations, and other stakeholders. Applicants can be based anywhere, but applications from those in low- and middle-income?ODA-eligible countries are particularly encouraged.?

The closing date for applications: 19 July 2024 ?

EMB launches Future Science Brief No. 11 on Marine habitat mapping

Higher resolution maps are needed to better represent the linkages between the seabed and water column in three-dimensions and to enable an ecosystem approach that considers the marine environment in the “fourth dimension” of time. EMB Future Science Brief No. 11 ‘Marine habitat mapping’ presents science and policy needs and recommendations to advance next-generation marine habitat mapping.

The UNESCO Digital Library

The Digital Library is a source of high-quality information on UNESCO activities (in education, natural sciences, social and human sciences, culture, and communication and information), with more than 350,000 documents dating back to 1945. It includes the collections of the UNESCO Library and several documentation centres in UNESCO’s Field Offices and Institutes, as well as the UNESCO Archives. The essential purpose of the UNESCO Digital Library is to share knowledge and to transmit it to future generations.
