Friction Material

Let's talk a little about friction material.

Friction material is one of the most important elements for a braking system. The efficiency of the brake depends directly on the quality of the friction material used in the pads.

The challenge is to achieve good performance friction material at an acceptable application cost is not always an easy task and worse when it comes from organic material.

The safety of large load-carrying equipment such as belt conveyors, overhead cranes and ship loaders is based on the brake system used and likewise on the friction material used in the pads, which is also the main element of wear.

The certainty of the use of an approved material during the exchange of the pads, is up to the user.

Today there are several types of tests that must be performed for approval a friction material and the bases for the industrial market shall be the same as those adopted for the automobile which defines different standards for each type of test.

EuroSpec is a good basis for it, tests for defining the coefficient of friction, wear, adherence, compression and displacement are some of the main ones to qualify the material.

Be careful about the type of material you use in your equipment and require your supplier's quality certificate.

Safety must always be in the first place !!!
