????????????????.
The word has such a negative connotation.
???????
Because we take in things around us and often accept what we see as the ultimate truth.
???????? ???? ?????????????????
Anything that opposes or slows down movement.
Case 1: A new political party
There was a political movement in my state decades ago. A new party was formed and spread its wings far and fast.
The party had several faces but only two prominent ones. As the legend goes, one such person was denied a minister seat. Despite requests, an allocation was ignored. Friction in thought, word, and deed here.
This forced this person to branch off and start his own political party, which became a dominant force.
Friction or resistance drove that entrepreneur leader to start his own movement.
Case 2: Several new fitness groups
There was a dominant fitness body in my city with aspirations to be THE fitness body for the state. The cycling movement caught on, drawing members by the dozen. The entire ecosystem was charged up, from cycling vendors to supporters to volunteers. Newer members had newer ideas, yet some of them were either suppressed, disregarded, or dropped for lack of time and money. The entrepreneur volunteers then went ahead and started their mini-movements. Some grew to take on a dominant shape, eclipsing the first association in this sector.
Friction, coupled with attitudes like "this is the way it will be done" and "we are the only ones to do it", made others branch out on their own.

My request here is to deliberately seek out diverse thoughts as well.
?????? ?????????? ???? ?????? ???? ?????????
There will be people around us who think differently, who have different ideas and ways of doing things. Give such people a chance, some space, and the freedom to pursue those thoughts.
???? ?????????????????? ???? ?????????????? ???????????????? ?????? ????????????.
Cognitive dissonance steps in, a form of friction, when I want to do something, but the company wants me to conform and do something else.
When I know that I am on the right path or want to find out if I am, I need to be given that space. When that is not given, and my entrepreneurial drive accelerates me towards trying out my thoughts, that is friction that I will use as fuel.
The two cases above give the perspective of an association or party and the leadership not allowing something. There is friction in both cases. In the association, for example, why allow something new when what we have works well. In the case of the leaders, there's a different way to do things, and I don't have the freedom to do it here. So, I will move out and do it my way.
???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????.?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????!?
Use that friction within you to propel you.
And take up all those around you one notch higher.
That's the outlier way.
DO.

6 天前Friction at a cognitive level is a resistance that a person shows. Resistance to accept, adapt, change. As a self-reflection for a leader, if you sense friction in your thoughts. Instead of pumping energy to resist, focus on the intention and outcome. The friction could be a new gateway to growth. Loved reading the newsletter Pravin Shekar. It always reflects the friction to propel, to grow rather than resist. Absolute Outlier way.

6 天前Loved the three fold focus of the article..Makes for a wonderful read and promises quite a bit of return on investing time Pravin Shekar ..Friction or I would say conflict sometimes is pretty much okay in favour of evolving expressions and opportunities towards learnings and course correction...I would anyday vouch for a family that fights and cries sometimes, rather than the one on silent mode ??..Loved your newsletter, subscribed ??????

6 天前Excellent article on how Friction will lead to Growth and Progress. Pravin Shekar But it's important to note that too much friction might also lead to wear and tear. What works wonders is the Lubricant that keeps the parts moving despite friction. As an organisational psychologist, I think Lubricants are the common goals, shared values, and inclusive mindset for an organisation to grow.

6 天前Yes, friction is surely a good thing. When I moved to the US, I deliberately created friction. This helped me broaden my outlook and expand my horizons. It's essential for consistent growth.
