Friars Walk Newport - slippery slope to safe slope

All floors must meet a certain slip resistance as set by the HSE and UK Slip Resistance Group. Shortly after being installed the owners of this shopping centre had these external concrete pavers tested after a few incidents and found them to be below the required level when wet. Nano-Effect (anti-slip) were brought in to carry out their Nano-Blast treatment to make these pavers safe.

Nano-Effect (anti-slip) have various techniques that would help but in this situation the client needed an extreme anti-slip. Normally the required slip resistance level would be anything greater than 35 in both wet and dry conditions (as measured by the pendulum) however with a slope this level is increased to greater than 45.

After the Nano-Blast treatment a slip resistance level of 68 in the wet was measured with the specified Pendulum Test which is the only test fully recognised in a UK court of law.
