MESSAGE FROM DEBORA B. FREITAS LóPEZ
Last week, I had the privilege of watching our future social and behavior change leaders in action. As CCP’s renowned Leadership in Strategic Communication Workshop wrapped up yet another inspiring three-week course, adding a new group to our alumni of more than 5,000 people from more than 100 countries around the world, I saw the work through their eyes. ?
This incredible group of young professionals brought fresh voices and new perspectives to some of the world's most pressing problems from preventable heart disease to alcohol use disorder to systemic racism. They used CCP’s tried-and-true theories and approaches to frame the problems and pre-test messaging, to be sure. But they took off from there, bringing an empathy, a commitment to inclusivity and equity and the latest technology (including AI) to put their unique stamps on what future social and behavior change campaigns could look like in the future. ?
One participant told me that having the ability to walk through program creation from start to finish was something he never has the opportunity to do in his daily work and it taught him countless lessons along the way. Another said he gained so much from his three weeks in Baltimore that he wants to come back again (and again!) to boost his skills even higher. ?
Cultivating and expanding platforms for building the capacity in SBC is essential for fostering sustainable development, improving health and other development outcomes, and enhancing the overall well-being in communities globally. Robust programs and platforms, such as the workshop, SBC Learning Central, the Compass for SBC and others, can drive increased inclusion, continuous learning, innovation, and collaboration among key actors. ?
Let’s all continue exploring ways for further cultivating knowledge and nurturing the next generation of SBC leaders.
