A Fresh View of Company Values
Values of the heart (corporate core values) and values of the mind (team values) are essential for a complete organizational culture. Corporate core values establish an emotional foundation while team values establish operational foundations. ?
Values of the Heart
The term core values was first introduced in 1994 in Built to Last. The authors argued that many of the best, most enduring companies had principles that they termed ‘core values’ at their heart. Ten years later, 90% of companies declared having core values.
Core values are values of the heart that resonate emotional beliefs. Often cited examples include integrity, respect, humility, kindness, courage, and empathy.
Values of the Mind
Team values are values of the mind that strikes a chord of actionable practices such as accountability, innovation, and collaboration. Since each team is unique, each will have both shared and distinct values that reflect their specific context, whether for projects, products, departments, locations, or the organization as a whole.
