On My Noggin: The Power of Starting Over
Fresh starts aren’t always about big life changes. It’s not about packing up everything you own and moving across the country, starting a new career, or doing a complete 180 in your life. Sometimes, a fresh start is just making the decision to do one thing differently today than you did yesterday.
Think of it like resetting a cluttered desk — you don’t need to throw everything out. You just need to clear a little space, get rid of what’s not serving you, and maybe add something small that makes it feel new again. That’s what a fresh start is: clearing out the mental junk, making room for something better, and choosing to begin again — no matter how messy your last attempt.
This week, let’s get real about what “fresh starts” can look like. Maybe it’s choosing a different route to work, putting your phone down for the first hour of the day, or trying out a new morning routine. It’s less about the action itself and more about the decision to show up for yourself in a new way. So, start small. Just one new choice today. See what happens.
You don’t need a new year or a major life overhaul to make a fresh start. You just need the willingness to say, “Alright, today I’m going to try something different.” Give yourself permission to start wherever you are, even if it feels tiny. That’s the beginning of something new.
Mindset Mountain: Create a Positive Affirmation Practice
There’s a lot of buzz around affirmations. but here is the skinny: positive affirmations aren’t about pretending life is perfect. They’re about reminding yourself that you have the strength and resilience to keep moving forward — no matter what’s in front of you. Think of affirmations like a reset button for your mind when your thoughts start heading into negative territory.
This week, start with just one. Write it down and put it somewhere you’ll see it every day: on your bathroom mirror, as your phone background, or even scribbled on a sticky note in your car. Something like, “I’ve got what it takes to handle today.” Then, say it out loud when you see it. Once in the morning and once before bed. It might feel silly at first but stick with it for a few days.
This isn’t about ignoring reality or forcing a good mood. It’s about choosing to focus on what’s in your control: your thoughts. Give it a try and see if it shifts your mindset — even a little.

Red Rock Magic
If you’re looking for a spot that feels a little like stepping into another world, Sedona, Arizona, is the place to go. Known for its stunning red rock formations, this small town has an energy all its own. Start your day with a sunrise hike up Cathedral Rock or Devil’s Bridge — both will give you panoramic views that’ll knock your socks off. If hiking is not your thing, take a scenic drive along Red Rock Loop Road, where you can pull over at various spots to soak up the view.
When it comes to food, you’ve got to grab breakfast at The Coffee Pot — a local diner famous for its 101 omelet options. Try the cactus omelet if you’re feeling adventurous. For lunch, head over to The Hideaway House for their wood-fired pizzas, paired perfectly with a view overlooking Oak Creek Canyon.
And do not, under any circumstances, skip Elote Café for dinner. It’s a bit of a splurge, but their signature Elote (Mexican corn appetizer) and smoked pork cheeks are worth every penny. Pro tip: make a reservation ahead of time — it’s a popular spot for a reason.
Whether you’re a fan of hiking, scenic views, or just good food, Sedona’s got something for everyone. Take your time, enjoy the fresh air, and let the red rock magic work its charm.
Movie of the Week
In our modern, long-hours culture, we place a high value on career and success.? So, it’s not surprising that retirement is seen as an end, rather than the start of something new.
But it’s a mistake to think that you have to have a job to be productive or fulfilled.? Many people achieve much more when they retire than they ever did at work, finally having the time to pick up on their interests, and be true to their passions.?
Retirement is a state of mind rather than something that starts at a certain age.? And life doesn’t need to close or end. In fact, it can open up in surprising and healing ways.? And it can also be a journey of discovery and adventure. Go into it with curiosity about yourself and embrace the possibilities that open up to you.??
Filmed in Suurbraak, South Africa.?
Featuring Gary Goldstein.
Filmmakers: We are Michael and Justine - passionate filmmakers, living off-grid and dedicating our time to making films that we hope will inspire and share positivity out into the world.?
