A Fresh Start

A Fresh Start

How much baggage are you carrying around with you? I’m not referring to your laptop and business folder. I mean the weight of all the pain and disappointment, the conflict and anger you’ve accumulated along your pathway. If you could quantify the mass of all the negative experiences you’ve encountered, we’d probably be talking about a couple of hundred tons. And it shows. It can be seen in your posture. It’s imprinted on your muscles. It’s engraved on your heart. Perhaps it’s time to lay aside the enormous weight of your past and discover what it feels like to fly.

In light of recent, pioneering research in the field of behavioural psychology, we’re beginning to acknowledge that the past leaves an unmistakable impression on our bodies. We’re learning that as long as our muscles retain these defensive memories of unpleasant experiences, we will continue to frame our lives around the pain of the past. The good news is that we can unlock these instinctive blockages and experience a life-changing release of redundant emotion that will open our lives to a completely fresh approach to our deeper potential for happiness and fulfilment. It’s helpful to recognise that the keys to our personal freedom cannot be found within the confines of the conscious mind. Our behaviours are governed by conditions which lie within the vast domain of the subconscious. When we unblock the knots and bundles of tension in our muscles, the subconscious recognises the significance of these changes and releases the memories of any events that resulted in our deeply defensive and protective layer of physical tension. The change can happen so quickly that the conscious mind might need a little time to play catch-up and understand the depths

of the transformation. It’s a perfectly natural way to resolve long years of pain, anger, fear and emotional discomfort. It’s deeply cleansing as well as deeply healing.

For most people, the embedded emotional scarring is so familiar to their everyday experience, that they no longer notice its presence. Yet, despite our lack of awareness, our bodies strive to attract our attention and offer hints about the tensions that get in the way of our health and wellbeing. This is where simple practices such as Yoga, Tai Chi and deep tissue massage can help to restore balance to the body.

If you suspect that the time is right to discover a better way of experiencing each day, listen to your body and make an appointment to free yourself from the dead weight of the past. You’ll be very pleasantly surprised at how much better you feel.
