Creating Interiors and Exteriors that lift the spirit and enrich life
Here in Australia, winter isn’t too far off, so it’s nice to be inspired by interior spaces that lift the spirit.
This dining/kitchen area is part of a lovely home in middle Dural, NSW.
It was looking very tired when we saw it for the first time due to a number of factors. It lacked the benefit of natural light, because of the deep overhanging roof of a large veranda. Most of the furniture was a monochrome, warm timber colour which did nothing to lift the space but instead it blended in with the cork flooring. Added to this, the woven blinds were much the same colour as the furniture. All in all, the entire space was visually heavy looking and, well, rather boring!
The table was in reasonable condition, so I agreed to paint it for the clients (not something I do as a rule)! I chose to use white gloss paint on the table top and a deep brown for the remainder of the table. The white chairs were the perfect accompaniment to the newly painted table.
Next to be transformed were the blinds, which were spray painted, also in white. Things were beginning to come together!
The walls were then painted in white and finally, I then layered over this a soft, mint green paint colour in a stripe.
Finally, some finishing touches were need. I added a large white-framed mirror to add a sense of place and also to visually enlarge the space. Lastly, an inexpensive chandelier with a silver frame and black fabric sleeve over the suspension was put in pride-of-place.
Et Voila! There you have it! A beautiful room exuding the a wonderful, Spring-like freshness.
