Fresh Faces Spotlight: Drew Kissling

Each year we run a summer series where we interview agents who are awesome to work with! This year we focused on fresh faces and folks whose names have been popping up more and more around the HFC office. We enjoy giving our agents some love whenever we can, and we're proud to present another great summer of talented, hard-working folks.

How did you first get into insurance sales? How long have you been in the business, and what’s your favorite part?

I’ve been in the industry for about 12 years now actually. It’s a family business, and my dad owned the agency, so like a lot of other local insurance agencies, it’s family-owned. I came into it when I was trying to figure out what I wanted to do, and it ended up sticking. Our agency has been around for over a hundred years now, been open since 1917, so we’re a long term agency, and we’re looking to continue to grow.

Customer interaction is probably the best part, when you have those good relationships built with clients. It may start out? as a renters policy or an auto policy, and it ends up turning into home policy and business policy in the future. Things like that just grow, and having the ability to save them money if need be, but also make sure they’re properly covered for when the unexpected happens, which is what insurance is for. I like being able to give everybody the best coverage I can provide for them while also being able to save them some money at the same time. The thing I enjoy the most is being able to accomplish all those.

What’s something about the insurance business that you wish more insiders and/or outsiders understood?

Understanding what coverages are actually providing. I don’t know how many times I’ve had to explain what the liability on an auto insurance policy is, what that actually covers when somebody comes in wanting state minimum limits, and you have to explain that’s not really gonna go too far. Then you can make sure they’re getting protection. Helping the customer fully comprehend what the coverages actually are so that they understand and aren't’ just buying the cheapest insurance just to buy it. Cheap is great until you have to use the insurance, and then you realize you don’t have nearly enough.

How did you first get connected with Hanover Fire & Casualty?

Working with Hanover Fire is relatively new in the last year and a half. I contracted with a specialty underwriting group, and Hanover’s one of the blanket companies they work with. It’s been a really strong partnership especially for some rental dwellings and things around that I didn’t have a place for elsewhere. It’s been a good niche market for us.?

What are some of your career goals for the next couple of years? How might Hanover fit into your journey in achieving those?

Continued growth in the marketplace, but also growth within our workforce. We’d like to have some more agents here that can help us continue to grow and also keep up with the modernizing of insurance. There are lots of trends that are happening, and being able to keep up with the ones that are working vs. the ones that kind of fall by the wayside and deciding which ones to move forward with. In the end it's all about growth and protecting our clients and bringing in new ones that we can help protect in the future.

Thanks for working with HFC, Drew! We look forward to seeing what the future brings for both you and your agency.
