Today, almost one in every ten women is affected by Diabetes. If left unattended Diabetes could lead to nerve damage, amputations, blindness and strokes. Women tend to ignore a few vital symptoms of Diabetes in their everyday life.
Although, just being aware about the symptoms and keeping a mental note of these symptoms could help manage this disease better. Here’s Dr. Pradeep Gadge sharing a few symptoms of Diabetes which women must not ignore:
- Frequent Urinary Tract Infection(UTI) Chances of UTI are always high in women. “In Indian women, who wear sarees, UTI is more common. But when you suffer from this condition often, it’s time to get your blood sugar level analyzed,” High blood sugar leads to bacterial and yeast infections. An increase in the number of UTI episodes, for instance more than 2-3 times a month could be a sign of high blood sugar.
- Frequent Urination Excess sugar in the blood streams are often ejected through urination. If the urge to urinate more than usual continues for 2-3 weeks, it could be a sign of Diabetes and you should immediately consult your doctor.
- Unusual Weight Loss and Tiredness Weight Loss is a common symptom of Diabetes. Unprocessed body sugar is directly used as a fuel to the body burning the fat reserves which leads to weight loss and dehydration.
- Dark Necks and Underarms Darkening of neck and underarms is also seen in women with PCOS. Women who suffer from PCOS have high chances of being diabetic. These parts of the body are highly sensitive to insulin and tend to go darker with an insulin resistance in the body.
- Vision Excess blood sugar often affects the eyesight due to the change in lenses and the retinal blood vessels. For many patients, Blood Sugar is detected usually after the visit to the eye doctor.
These symptoms must not be taken lightly and you must consult your doctor if you spot any of them. If you know anyone in your family facing or complaining about these issues, take them to a doctor and get their blood sugar levels tested. Early detection and management of Diabetes could help in tackling the disease efficiently and in some cases might even help the patients get into remission.
