FREEZING TEMPERATURES CREATE WATER DAMAGE & ELEVATOR REPAIRS
Over the past few days we have been experiencing some severely cold weather. Cold weather is a leading cause of water damages. When temperatures drop below freezing your plumbing pipes can freeze, and then burst. Many times the water leaks down elevator shafts and creates water damage that is costly to building managers and owners. We line the work but advise taking the right precautionary steps can prevent such a disaster.
Insulate Exterior Pipes
It is important to prepare ahead to prevent frozen pipes when temperatures drop during the long and cold winter. Home and business owners should drain water from exterior or interior pipes that are rarely used.
Increase the Heat
Pipes inside a building are susceptible to bursting, especially during extreme temperatures that cause water to expand and split metal. When a pipe bursts in a seldom used area of a building the water begins to flow everywhere! To prevent splitting pipes in a building due to low temperatures turn up the heat slightly. In addition, open doors where possible especially near basements to help heated air circulate around pipes.
Champion Elevator understands the stress and worry that comes with a fire or water damage and the disruption it causes your life, and home or building. Please notify building Engineers or Superintendents to watch for these freezing temperatures!
