Freelancing skills in demand....

I love a good challenge!

Trying to compare and contrast all of the sources of data out there, and then bring it down to a degree of simplicity to understand the specific applications of each in demand skill...from the research I was able to complete, there are a few consistent themes:

Web Development:

  • JavaScript, HTML, and CSS: These are the three core technologies used in building websites and web applications.
  • React, Angular, and Vue.js: These are popular JavaScript libraries and frameworks for building user interfaces.
  • Node.js: This is a JavaScript runtime that allows developers to build server-side applications.
  • Python: This is a versatile programming language that can be used for web development, data analysis, and more.

Graphic Design:

  • Adobe Creative Suite: This includes software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, which are widely used in graphic design.
  • Sketch: This is a digital design tool that is becoming increasingly popular among graphic designers.
  • Branding: This encompasses creating and maintaining a company's visual identity, including logos, typography, and color schemes.
  • UX/UI design: This is the process of designing user interfaces that are intuitive and easy to navigate.

Content Writing:

  • Copywriting: This is the art of writing persuasive text that sells products or services.
  • SEO writing: This is the process of writing content that is optimized for search engines.
  • Blogging: This is the process of creating written content for a website or online publication.
  • Content strategy: This is the process of planning, creating, and managing content across various platforms.

Digital Marketing:

  • SEO: This is the process of optimizing a website to rank higher in search engine results.
  • PPC: This stands for pay-per-click and refers to online advertising campaigns that charge advertisers only when their ad is clicked.
  • Social Media Marketing: This refers to the process of promoting a business or brand through social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
  • Email marketing: This refers to the process of using email to promote products or services to a list of subscribers.

Soft skills:

  • Communication: ability to convey information effectively and efficiently, both verbally and in writing.
  • Time management: ability to prioritize and manage one's own time effectively.
  • Collaboration: ability to work well with others to achieve a common goal.
  • Adaptability: ability to adapt to changing circumstances and new information.
  • Problem-solving: ability to identify and solve problems in a timely and efficient manner.

Far from an exhaustive list, but these are the areas in focus that I would encourage people interested in freelancing to dig into!

Matt Sigelman and team over at Burning Glass Institute put together this great report that highlights skills based hiring around emerging, declining and adjacent skills. Interesting to see AI/ML, Cloud Security, Social Media and Program Management as top four skills needed across industries https://www.burningglassinstitute.org/research/how-skills-are-disrupting-work
