Freelance Vs. Corporate?

How do you know what career is much better for you?

Now let's have a conversation...

How do you cope with so much to do in a day, but with little time left because you're already exhausted –from traveling to work that takes almost two hours or more every single day??

Is there another option for you to earn money without waking up at 4 am so that you'll beat the rush hour traffic?

Should you be taking care of yourself, like doing yoga in the morning, nature walking with your dog, or taking it slow in your bed while simply sipping your creamiest hot coffee…

Or should you be spending time with your little kids while preparing their breakfast or school lunches…(Time flies you don't realize they’re growing too fast)

Or perhaps should you be spending some quality time with other family members, instead of rushing to work that isn't giving you much pay, motivation, and growth opportunities.

So hello, my name is Maria and I'm a freelance copywriter from Cebu, Philippines.

My goal is to inspire my fellow young Filipinos to learn important digital skills to become more competitive, world-class, and successful in online jobs.

But what are opportunities you have that can change the trajectory of your life and work, by the way?

Well, lucky for us millennials and Gen Zs because there are tons of options out there.

But it isn't as easy as it looks.?

You can’t just quickly apply to those hiring positions that offer a work-from-home setup if you don’t have something to offer, right?

However, if you're willing to work for it, learning a digital skill you're interested in and passionate about…

Even spending an hour or two a day, I’ll guarantee you'll get better at that skill every single day…

That will give you the confidence and foundational skills to offer to small business owners who have limited time to do everything for their businesses.?

What digital skills are most in demand right now for small business owners?

Thriving business owners need reliable remote teams or freelancers around the world who can help with lead generation, responding to inquiries, designing with Canva for social posts, tech support, writing copy to raise brand awareness and boost conversions, and so much more.?

Because today it’s never been easy to get customers online…

So business owners have to pivot from traditional and more expensive business models.

Remember the TV ads, billboards, flyers, and door-knocking?

Well, it isn't as effective as 20 years ago…

That’s why, there's more demand for digital marketers today than ever before…

Just look at various Job Boards and online platforms such as Fiverr, Upwork, Onlinejobsph, Flexjobs, LinkedIn, FB groups, and marketing agencies pages….

Although there's a ton of competition out there, you know these online work opportunities are growing…

You will still find a role that fits your values (which is very important), schedule (part-time or full-time), and the skills you’ll offer.?

Now, your goal is to learn a digital skill if you don’t have one yet.?

I’m 100% sure you have enormous potential.?

You’re already working and or studying something….

If you’re new and still figuring it out, then I’ll share with you valuable resources here….

Bust first, just start…

Do you have a phone??

A laptop?

An internet?

A mobile hotspot from your family members at home??

I’m connecting with my husband right now…

So what’s your excuse?

Now ready-set-freelance!

If you think you can do the freelancing lifestyle but still doubt if you can do it, well I'm telling you that you CAN!?

And you might have the basic resources needed to start right now!

Why online jobs could be a better option for you??

Well because it offers several advantages to working 9-5 in the office.?

Working alone or doing freelance also has some disadvantages, such as social isolation, analysis paralysis (perfectionism), and self-doubt, but just like anything else in life, right??

And we can talk about it in another episode.

For now, I'll be sharing the top three advantages of learning a digital skill and becoming a freelancer:

First, you have more flexibility with your time--because you don't have to travel to work back and forth unless your work right now is just a 15-minute ride or less. More than that, you should be considering alternatives.

Second, online jobs like digital marketing, lead generation, customer support, and online teaching often offer better pay once you get better at delivering results to your clients.

Third, as a freelance, you become a business owner and now you'll quest to learn far more, improve your mindset, and remove some limiting beliefs, which can also present you with more earning potential and increase your confidence in public speaking, upskilling, and networking….

There are a lot of amazing things that could happen if you become a business owner–your life will change!

Now in this age, the laptop lifestyle -working from anywhere has been the trend, especially during the pandemic and will continue.

But the path to enjoying such a lucrative lifestyle isn’t easy but it's doable.?

Many Filipinos have done it and they’re successful and now sharing their experiences and becoming mentors to those interested.?

So it's possible as long you trust the process, believe in yourself, and do the hard work.

Hard work and perseverance trump talent, as they would say.

So the purpose of this channel is to share some wins, failures, lessons, and recommended resources relevant to improving our digital skills…

I hope you'll find these valuable and let me know if you have any questions.?

To go freelance or corporate, I suggest weighing your options…

When you’re unsure, slowly transition by learning a specialized skill after your 9-5 work, such as graphic designing, video editing, and email copywriting…

Or exploring generalized skills that virtual assistants often do such as social media, lead generation, customer support, etc.

After all, working in a supportive corporate world that offers better compensation, culture, and benefits might be best for you right now and in the long term.

But if you have bigger dreams and goals for yourself and your family–that is to spend more time together and have more freedom (no more filing for leave of absence and getting rejected!), then why not explore your options with freelancing??
