At NIZE equipment, our service technicians are at the heart of our customer service. They play an indispensable role in installation, maintenance, and advising customers about large-format printers and cutting machines. But what does the job really entail? We interviewed one of our experienced service technicians, Mads Mikkelsen , who shares insights into everything from daily tasks and customer tips to fun experiences on the road.
Planning and customer contact: The first steps
Every task begins with planning. "When I'm heading out on a service visit, I always start by reviewing the customer’s history in our CRM system. Here, I can see previous notes and any special remarks about the machine that might be relevant," says Mads. Afterward, the technician ensures that a service kit with all the necessary tools is ordered, and the journey is planned. "A couple of days before the visit, I contact the customer to inform them of the arrival time so they can be prepared," Mads continues.
Preparation: How we create optimal working conditions
There are also a few things the customer can do to optimize the efficiency of the service visit. "When the customer makes sure the area around the machine is clean and tidy, it makes all the difference. It means I can get started quickly without having to move pallets around or remove tape from tables," Mads explains. A tidy workstation also creates a pleasant start to the visit for both parties
A typical day on a service visit
A service visit typically involves a thorough review of the machine, checking both for faults and optimization opportunities. "If it's about installing a #swissQprint printer, the process is a bit different. First, I unload and install the printer. Then, I take the time to thoroughly train the customer in using the machine," Mads says. To ensure that the customer gets the most out of their new equipment, the technician often returns after a month or two for follow-up training. That extra time makes a difference, and customers usually feel about 20% more confident after the second round.
Passion for freedom and responsibility
When we ask Mads what makes the job of a service technician unique, the answer is clear: "Freedom with responsibility." It's this balance between independence and trust that makes the job so satisfying. "Of course, it takes discipline to manage your freedom and the ability to work independently. Sometimes it can be lonely, but the freedom and responsibility I have mean a lot to me."
Favorite tools and challenges
When asked about his favorite tool, Mads doesn’t hesitate: "My most-used tool is definitely a 2.5 mm hex key," he says. "I use it for almost everything." When we ask about the challenges of the job, he explains that electrical tasks can be complicated, especially on a swissQprint printer. "It requires staying calm, but with experience and patience, you can get far."

From graphic printer to service technician
After working as a graphic printer, Mads wanted new challenges, and the role of a service technician at NIZE equipment was a perfect fit. "I had ambitions and needed to use my technical skills in new ways. At NIZE, I get to develop myself and contribute to the company's growth," Mads explains.
Advice for future service technicians
A job as a service technician is not necessarily a typical 9-5 job, so an important piece of advice from Mads is to ensure that there’s support from family. "It requires flexibility and a willingness to adapt, so it’s good to understand that this can be a lifestyle, not just a job," says Mads.
Humor and fun experiences on the job
The job as a service technician can sometimes offer fun experiences. "One of the funniest things was when I found a colleague's glasses under a printer, where they had been for almost a year!" Mads says with a smile. And with the name Mads Mikkelsen, he frequently gets asked whether he's the famous Danish actor. "It always creates a bit of confusion and laughter," Mads concludes.
