Freedom as the Lifeblood of Entrepreneurship

Freedom as the Lifeblood of Entrepreneurship

In honor of Independence Day, let's reflect on the incredible journey of entrepreneurship and the unparalleled sense of independence it brings. As entrepreneurs, we are the architects of our destiny, shaping our dreams into reality. Business ownership empowers us to break free from conventional boundaries, chart our own course, and unleash our creative spirit.

Entrepreneurship requires risk taking, and daring to dream big, while embracing the freedom to innovate and build something remarkable. It embodies the values of self-reliance, determination, and perseverance. We have the privilege of driving change, creating opportunities, and impacting lives through our ventures to forge our own path and make a difference.

No matter where you are on your entrepreneurial journey, one common element of freedom that entrepreneurs tend to gravitate to is creating financial freedom through their business.?

They want the financial reward to come from successful business ownership, and then to continue to scale, leverage, and grow. Many of them have created a business with the initial intention of taking the limits off their earning potential; they desire to have the business support their personal needs, their family’s needs, and everything they could hope or dream for in life and with their business.

Financial freedom, like everything else, is subjective to everyone; it means something different for each person. One person’s financial freedom is being able to afford groceries without having to think about what they buy, while another wants a private yacht or a private island and anywhere in between.

It’s important to start with the awareness of what this means for you, personally. Really getting clear about what “financial freedom” looks, seems, feels, and presents for you, both linearly and nonlinearly, will make it far more likely you will achieve it. You can’t achieve what you aren’t aware of, so start your process by spending some time really decoding what that means for you.

For some, the word “freedom” is more important even than the “financial” side of things; and for others; the money is the real focus. Either way, there will be feelings associated with what freedom and/or money does for you, so really drill down and discover what you want to be feeling and thinking and how you plan to behave when you have that money. When you are clear about what you want to feel as a result of financial freedom, you can start feeling those feelings now, because that’s all anyone really needs or wants anyway! Too many people wait to feel those desired feelings until they have the final result and end up pushing that result further away from actuality.

The reality is, even when business owners make a major windfall, close the biggest case of their career, hit their big audacious goals, and/or break into a new financial echelon, the excitement and celebration that comes from hitting that goal is either quite fleeting or completely absent.

More commonly, when people hit those major targets financially, they either feel relieved, neutral, or not much at all. The number is just a number. The money is just pixels on a screen and not even real to them.

Sure, some may celebrate with some external reward, however even that brings a temporary dopamine hit that doesn’t sustain them for very long.

This doesn’t diminish the reality that money is the chosen currency of exchange on our planet, and thus we need money to provide for our basic needs. When we have abundant financial resources, this concern is completely taken off the table. Also, money and financial freedom can afford us luxuries, experiences, and privileges.

If financial freedom is one of your top priorities, that doesn’t make you wrong or bad. I just have observed that even when we hit that highly sought-after goal, the magic we imagine is often fleeting. Also, it often leads to an intense pressure to perform in our business at that same financial level year after year or we develop a new longing for something more, such as greater fulfillment, purpose, impact, and/or legacy building.

What many of those business owners have not fully come to understand is that the business is just a part of who you already are. Subscribe to listen to this month’s audio podcast to hear more about the holistic approach to integrating freedom into your business and life.

Enjoy July and your celebration of Freedom!?
