Instagram Removes Option To Follow Hashtags

Instagram has announced the removal of the ability to follow hashtags, a move aimed at combating spam and irrelevant content. Posts and Reels from hashtags you already follow will no longer appear in your main feed. While hashtags remain functional for searches and content discovery, their role in engagement and reach is evolving as Instagram’s algorithms are evolving to better understand user preferences and content relevance. This shift may encourage users to follow individual creators instead, aligning with Instagram’s strategy to support creator engagement and activity. Though hashtags continue to play a role in connecting users with relevant content, their importance has somewhat diminished in the platform's broader ecosystem.

Instagram To Introduce Option To Reset Your Recommendations

Instagram is rolling out a new feature that allows users to reset their content recommendations, offering a fresh start to retrain the algorithm across the Explore page, home feed, and Reels tab. This tool is designed for those who feel their current suggestions no longer align with their interests. Similar to TikTok’s reset option, the feature lets users refine their experience by starting over and unfollowing accounts they’re no longer interested in. Instagram emphasizes that this is a significant reset and should be used sparingly, as it takes time for the algorithm to relearn preferences. This addition complements existing tools like “Not Interested” and “Hidden Words,” providing more ways to personalize your feed. The feature will be available globally soon.

TikTok Launches New AI Video Creation Tools For Marketers

TikTok has introduced AI-powered tools within its Symphony Creative Studio to simplify video creation for marketers. Using product descriptions or URLs, the tool generates TikTok-ready video clips inspired by trending content. It incorporates assets like images, sounds, and videos sourced from partners like Getty Images, all cleared for commercial use. Additional features include customizable digital avatars to narrate scripts and multilingual options to target global audiences. This new tool complements TikTok’s existing AI features, such as script generation and idea prompts, offering businesses an efficient way to align with TikTok trends without extensive expertise. The new tool could help brands tap into the platform’s unique style and reach.

Facebook Adopts 'Views' As Its Primary Performance Metric

Following Instagram’s move earlier this year, Facebook is now shifting to "Views" as its primary metric for all content types, including video, images, and text posts. This change aims to simplify performance tracking by unifying metrics across Facebook and Instagram. "Views" will count the number of times content appears on a user’s screen, including repeat views, replacing metrics like "Impressions" for Stories and other formats. Meta is also renaming “Watch Time” to “Minutes Viewed” for greater clarity, while other metrics like Reach and Engagement remain unchanged. These updates align with Meta’s growing focus on video content and are designed to provide a more streamlined understanding of content performance. The changes will roll out in the Meta Business Suite and Professional Dashboard in the coming weeks.

Threads Takes Steps Toward Independence From Instagram

Threads, the text-based app from Meta, is moving toward greater independence from Instagram, according to Instagram chief Adam Mosseri. The platform will no longer recommend Instagram-related accounts during onboarding, though it will still use Instagram data to shape its "For You" feed. Threads' rapid growth—15 million new sign-ups this month—has been fueled by its Instagram connection, but critics argue it needs to refine its focus to succeed as a real-time, text-based platform. While Threads is currently prioritizing entertaining, engagement-driven content over real-time updates, some suggest it could fill the gap left by X (formerly Twitter) as a space for live news and discussion. Meta's challenge lies in balancing engagement with the risks of news content moderation.
