In a new interview with Colin and Samir, Instagram chief Adam Mosseri delves into the platform's evolving strategy. He highlights the transformative impact of video on engagement and Instagram's focus on a participatory experience based on sharing. Mosseri explains that "sends" are a crucial metric for post reach and emphasizes the benefits of short-form video for fostering connections. He also discusses Instagram's monetization approach and efforts to support smaller creators who haven't built a reliance on other platforms.
Meta is testing an automated process to optimize Reels performance on Facebook business pages by experimenting with different content variations. This "Auto A/B" testing generates Reel versions with various captions and covers, distributing the top performer. The platform is also exploring auto-generated templates for Reels promotions to enhance creative formats. This follows last November's introduction of caption A/B testing for Reels creators. As Meta leans into AI, it aims to streamline ad creation and placement, with future systems potentially crafting ads directly from product URLs.

TikTok has launched Whee, a new photo-sharing app designed for sharing pictures with close friends, similar to Instagram. According to its Google Play description, Whee encourages authentic sharing of real-life photos only visible to friends. The app features a photo viewfinder, messaging with friends, and a feed for connecting. Currently available on Android in over a dozen countries, Whee is still being tested and is not yet available on iOS. This follows TikTok's earlier image-sharing app, TikTok Notes, launched in April with a focus on a broader audience.
Instagram is testing a new “Creator Insights” feature to help creators form partnerships with brands by providing a snapshot of their account performance over the last 30 days. Selected creators now have a “Creator Insights” link on their profile, which brand accounts can tap to view analytics such as follower growth, accounts reached, and accounts engaged. This feature aims to facilitate connections between brands and influencers for potential ad partnerships. Currently, it's only available to selected profiles and viewable by brand accounts.
YouTube is testing an experimental feature called "Notes" that allows viewers to add context and information under videos, similar to Community Notes on X (formerly Twitter). This feature aims to clarify content, such as identifying parodies or old footage portrayed as current events, to combat misinformation, especially during the 2024 U.S. election year. Initially available on mobile in the U.S. in English, a limited number of users with active YouTube channels in good standing will be invited to write notes. Third-party evaluators will rate the notes for helpfulness and accuracy, and an algorithm will determine which notes are published.
