France

  • Starting July 1, 2025, France will enforce stricter language requirements for residence permits. Applicants for multi-year residency cards must show A2-level (conversational) French proficiency. Ten-year permit candidates will need B1-level (lower intermediate) skills, and those applying for citizenship must demonstrate B2-level (upper intermediate) proficiency. These rules will apply to all nationalities, including those with prior French knowledge.
