The days have gotten longer and the sun is out – summer is under way! I’ve always loved summer, and not just because of the vacations, slower pace and sunshine — I’m a summer baby! My birthday is in the summer so it’s always a fun time.
Now that Memorial Day has passed, summer is officially here. If you want to make sure you have the best summer possible, here are some productivity tips.?
1. Backtime your plans.
Backtiming is a concept I got from working as a TV news producer. You start at the end goal and work backwards. It’s something I walk you through in my book, Listful Living.
For example, if you’re attending a destination wedding in August, think about all the things you need to do beforehand. Make a list and then assign deadlines, working backwards depending on how much time you need for that task. Put these tasks into your calendar so you don’t forget! This works for all your big summer events, from birthdays to vacations.

2. Write down your summer goals.?
Imagine yourself at the end of the summer. What would make you feel like you’ve had a relaxing, recharging, and exciting summer? This can include small things like going to the beach or bigger goals like getting your resume together to apply to new jobs in the fall. The summer can fly by, so writing down your goals right now is a surefire way to make sure nothing slips through the cracks.?
3. Clear out clutter.
People think of spring as the time to do their big clutter clean-ups, but I recommend revisiting this task during the summer.
You’ve had some time by now to live with the way you organized things in the spring. Maybe there are some things you thought you wanted to keep but realized you should probably toss! Having a clutter-free home feels especially good over the summer, when you might be in and out of town on vacations and not in the mood to sift through a bunch of stuff to find what you need.?
How are you making space for a productive and enjoyable summer??
