There are numerous methods and reasons for conducting an SEO audit, and I'd like to share one of my top five workflows for 2023. While some elements are my "secret sauce," I'm happy to provide insight into this process.

Jeremy Pagel's Efficient & Wild SEO Audit Workflow:

1. Initiating the Audit: using tools like SEMrush, Ahrefs, or SE Ranking for an in-depth domain analysis (if you want - otherwise skip this and use HARPA AI or GPT. Just as good and don't cost $200+ a month.) Prioritize identifying technical SEO issues such as poor content density, low HTML-to-text ratio, repetitive titles, and meta descriptions, as well as keyword cannibalization.

2. Leverage Free Chrome extensions: like One-Click or Meta Inspector for quick site tweaks. These tools are invaluable for refining headings, images, and links, facilitating immediate SEO enhancements.

3. Delegate Technical Issues: (if you're that lucky to have a team) Ensure you delegate and don't take on everything all at once. Find your specialty. technical SEO concerns to the technical team, and content issues to the content team. Specialization ensures expert handling of each problem area.

4. Analyze Pages: Analyze pages with high visibility but low engagement. Revamp content, address thin content issues, and ensure accurate 301 redirects for improved navigation and indexing.

5. Top Pages and Crucial Content: Ensure these pages are correctly indexed in Google Search Console (GSC). Proper indexing is essential for enhanced search result visibility.

6. Conduct Competitor Analysis: If it wasn't an audit, I usually start my SEO with any company, even before keyword research, with competitor analysis - using a variation of parasitic SEO (which has it's own definition to me) in order to gauge user interaction and expectations with similar content. This informs a more effective content strategy and boosts user engagement.

7. Perform Toxic Backlink Analysis: THESE CAN DRAIN YOUR SITE & ONCE YOU BECOME SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE WILL TARGET YOU WITH TOXIC BACKLINKS AS A BLACKHAT SEO STRATEGY AND GUESS WHAT? IT WORKS. Anyway, find toxic backlinks in your backlink profile and disavow harmful links to maintain a healthy, credible link profile, a vital aspect of search engine reputation.

8. Cross-Referencing Data: Cross-reference keyword data from GSC and Google Keyword Planner with audit results. This is crucial for identifying gaps in content strategy, particularly in search intent and keyword application. Incorporate LSI keywords, synonyms, and related secondary keywords, using NLP techniques for content relevance.

9. Use GT Metrix or Page Speed Insights: Incorporate additional audit tasks like assessing mobile responsiveness, optimizing load times, and ensuring cross-browser/device compatibility. Evaluate the UX design, crucial for user retention.

10. Customize the SEO strategy: Customize to align with your organization's unique needs and operations, integrating SEO efforts into the broader business strategy for a more effective audit. Ensure you have your sheet from onboarding that outlines your clients brand or speak with your client to ensure that the content written and the CTA's align with the business tone of voice, competitors content relevance and reading-level etc. Then, keep trucking along!

This approach might seem comprehensive or unconventional, but it’s precisely why my company website outperformed competitors with older domains in under 45 days.
