Free Publicity Friday PR Tip

Free Publicity Friday PR Tip

What's with these audio social media platforms? I’m sure by now you’ve heard of Clubhouse. Not sure how they planned their launch but what a blessing it was to have had that platform during Covid. You could go in, network, engage, and not have to worry about what you were wearing or if you’d even brushed your teeth that morning.

We also now have Twitter Spaces, and Facebook has its own audio platform in beta. What do these platforms have to do with public relations? Not only can you go into the rooms and ask questions that position you as an expert in your field, you can also be brought to the front of the room and interviewed.

From a PR perspective, there are tons of journalists hanging out in these audio platforms too. It's a great place for them to find stories and there are many groups where they engage, talk about what they're looking for, and how they report stories. Look for PR and media groups and start listening and paying attention.

My platform is all about creating value and being in these rooms allows you to provide value about your industry and your expertise and it also allows you to provide value to journalists when you find where they are hanging out.

A note of caution… it’s easy to go down a rabbit hole in Clubhouse. I’ve done it many times. I recommend being intentional and targeted with where you want to be and what is best for your time spent in the rooms. Find the journalists, find the media rooms, and spend a little time in there and see if it's valuable for you. Also, if you can identify where your ideal clients/customers are hanging out, I recommend spending a little bit of time in those rooms too.

We have lots of options so it's important to spend your time wisely wherever you are hanging out online. Let me know in the comments if you're using Clubhouse, Twitter Spaces or Facebook audio and how it's working for you.
