H....
The MP3’s have worked a treat for H. H is partially blind and isn’t keen on joining in with activities so the days can be long and boring for her. H can also be disorientated at times and wanders round aimlessly. However, since listening to music on the MP3’s regularly, H mood has really picked up. When asking H if she remembers particular songs or lyrics, she cannot recall
although when she is listening to the music, she is becoming more familiar with the songs and has started to sing along. We can clearly see that when H has the headphones on, she is happy, smiling and swaying along. H now asks for the headphones so that she can listen to the music most days and instead of wandering around, she will sit for hours contently.
J:
J was a psychiatric nurse when she was younger, and her current stage of dementia means that she shouts out a lot asking what she can be doing to keep busy. However, J is not always willing to join in with activities so it can be hard to keep her occupied all of the time. When J listens to the music on the MP3 player, she settles down and stops shouting. Music helps to keep Jean calm and when other residents want to watch TV, it isn’t always possible to play music out loud so having her own MP3 has been great.

W:
Our W loves the MP3’s. W displays anxieties and repetitive behaviours but listening to the music has really helped to calm her nerves and make her feel more relaxed. W can sit now and not feel the need to be fiddling or doing something with her hands when she is listening to the music. We really struggle to get the MP3 off of W when we need her to concentrate on something, but it keeps her happy, so we are pleased!
B:
B is such a huge character within our home but sadly has lost the ability to talk properly. B misses socialisation with others and can often struggle to communicate what she wants or needs. When introducing B to the MP3 player, her face lit up as soon as we pressed play. B has now made her own sign to ask for the MP3 player and will use her hands to cover her ears like the headphones, and this indicates that she would like to use the MP3 player. You have made B a much happier person.
P:
P has not been well recently and has been spending a lot of time in bed. P usually enjoys getting involved in group activities but as she is on bedrest, she has not been able to. P does like to read but not watch TV, so she can become bored quickly in her bedroom all day. P was delighted to receive her MP3 player as she is a huge music fan and music really helps to cheer her up and lift her mood. P has been using her MP3 player almost daily and will only hand it back to staff for it to be charged up. Thank you so much, you have helped P get through a hard time.
