It Can’t Happen Here? About 2% of journalism in the United States is real, estimates Julian Assange. I’m a librarian with 20 years of experience, and I decided to spend the summer investigating his claim. Now I essentially agree with him. Decades of propaganda campaigns have been so effective that many of the worst propagandists, like Sean Hannity and Rachel Maddow, don’t even know that they are propagandists. It’s a self-regulating system to a large extent. You’d be surprised how seldom the “journalists” need to be told what to do. There are competing narratives within the dominant information structure, but it’s primarily about obscuring the war crimes and the lying and the profiteering. Trump is a lunatic, a useful idiot, a chaos agent in an age of crisis, or all three. In the US, Trump, Obama, the Bushes, and the Clintons are just different flavors of dumpster fire. And all of them are mass murderers and torturers, no matter what stories they manufacture for us or for themselves. Any one of these kind of people in control guarantees the death of all human life on the planet due to climate change or nukes or both. The multinational corporations and the deep state control the whole bloody carnival, using the trillion dollar defense budget. The people in control are bloodthirsty, greedy, and power-mad. The 1st Amendment is in its death throes and the Constitution is about an inch away from the shredder. Also, the person holding the office of US president has not ever really been in charge. You could research this for a thousand years and never get to the bottom of it. The most effective and reliable journalists today, and the whistleblowers, activists—and scientists who help them to do their work—are currently being redacted, marginalized, deplatformed, smeared, bought, silenced, hunted, imprisoned, tortured, and killed by every power structure on earth. It has taken me months to finally grasp the full implications of the situation we are in. Free Julian Assange.
