Free internet for students in eligible families
nbn? Australia
NBN Co runs the nbn? network, helping providers deliver reliable, fast, resilient and secure broadband.
Eligible families with school-aged children could save between $1500 and $2000 per year by accessing a free nbn broadband service.?
Do you have school-aged children but no active home broadband service to support them in their studies? Then, you may be eligible to access a free high-speed broadband service over the nbn? network under the Australian Government’s School Student Broadband Initiative (SSBI).??
Launched in February 2023, the SSBI program is providing up to 30,000 eligible families with free broadband until 31 December 2025, covering the cost of installation, nbn equipment and monthly fees.?
“We know that children who can access online learning as part of their education are more likely to be engaged in classroom activities,” says Jane McNamara, consumer spokesperson at nbn.
“Access to fast internet at home can also support school students in building their digital skills, learning how to safely use the internet, and participating more effectively in the digital economy.”
Are you eligible?
To be eligible for the SSBI program, a family must:
“With students returning to school, we are encouraging families to check if they’re eligible to receive a free nbn broadband service,” says Jane.

Stay alert to SSBI scams
Scammers may try using the School Student Broadband Initiative to impersonate a participating entity, such as nbn, in an attempt to extort money.
So, it's important to know nbn will never contact you to ask for bank details or to pay to participate in SSBI.
If you receive a suspicious phone call, text message or email, please report it immediately to Scamwatch.

9 个月I would just like to be able to use the phones in my practice. Small request, I think, to make from a telecommunications company. But still we pay our bill for services NOT delivered. Sigh. The energy vampires are everywhere, and I just don’t have time for another two hour phone call to be told we are in Victoria (not NSW) or a week to four to wait around for a “service” representative to visit (which can only be booked in a “time frame”, not as an appointment, difficult with 400 km between practices). Try explaining that to the overseas call centre helper who can helpfully “log” my telecommunication issue. The only bonus is listening to the background farm noises, the chicken crowing and birds tweeting, from the lass or ladette “office” at the Pilipino call centre (with manufactured American accent). And for the doubters: remember 3G is better than no G, there is no rural coverage approximately 10km from any town I drive through between my practices…the great Australian is actually an extortion racket. Well played, very well played: no obligation, no responsibly, maximum profits.????????

9 个月A lot of social housing have NBN boxes hooked up, it also has a lot of NBN boxes thrown around the yard and the cables ripped from the walls, might be because NBN is so bloody slow or because it’s another tax payer funded farce.

9 个月How much NBN spent on pointless advertising? It's like a water supplier advertising water. How much cheaper the internet could be if NBN didn't have all this overhead?
