Free H2S Training
Take this absolutely free online H2S training course from Abhisam, before you start your work in an area that may have the presence of Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) gas.
What is H2S?
H2S is the molecular formula for Hydrogen Sulfide (also spelled as Hydrogen Sulphide in some geographies such as the UK, India and Australia). H2S gas is highly toxic as well as explosive.
Where is H2S found?
It is naturally encountered in many areas, including Oilfields, natural gas fields, waste treatment plants, garbage dumps, underground sewers, coal mines and marshy areas.
Sometimes, it may get released during excavation of the ground, if there is decaying matter below the excavation area.
H2S is also a by product or waste gas stream in some chemical process plants.

Why is it hazardous?
H2S gas is extremely toxic and it can result in fatal injuries, even in low concentrations (parts per million). It is also explosive, means it can explode, if it meets with an ignition source with sufficient energy. It is almost colorless and it desensitizes the human nose. So if initially it can be smelled (it smells similar to rotten eggs), in higher concentrations or in case of more exposure time, the human nose gets desensitized and it stops smelling. This is even more dangerous as the human has now no idea that there is this dangerous, poisonous gas present in the surroundings.
Have there been any fatal accidents due to H2S?
There have been many fatal accidents over the years due to H2S and now in many places where H2S may get released, it is mandatory for all workers (or even visitors) to take H2S training before they can be allowed entry.
