Free Crisis Intervention Services are now available for Military Veterans
The Veterans Affairs department has issued a statement that any veteran who is considering suicide can now visit any Department of Veterans Affairs facility for treatment and help – whether or not they are enrolled in the VA system. The expansion of services includes up to 30 days of residential and 90 days of outpatient care, at no cost.
This is a new service that extends beyond those who were previously allowed treatments. Once treated within the VA system, veterans would receive referrals for further treatment if it is deemed necessary. They could be reimbursed for travel costs and be steered toward benefits and programs for which they may qualify.
Who is Eligible? These services are extended to ALL veterans who were discharged under conditions other than dishonorable, who were discharged or released from active duty after more than 24 months. Other criteria may apply. More information is available on VA’s web site … www.va.gov.
Help is planning to be available through the VA anytime, day or night – 24/7
If you are a Veteran in crisis or concerned about a veteran who expressed deep depression, connect with caring, qualified VA responders for confidential help. Many of the responders are Veterans themselves.
