Free Business Idea of the Week: A Digital Wallet for All Your Documents
Growing up in a self-employed family, I was always tuned into the world of business—constantly spotting opportunities and ways to make business work. Over the years, I’ve had so many business ideas that I can’t possibly pursue them all without sacrificing quality in my ongoing projects. So here’s a free business idea for someone to run with: an all-in-one digital wallet that securely stores and verifies your everyday documents.
Step 1: Solve a UK Problem with Insurance Documents
In the UK, if you're pulled over and can’t produce your insurance, license, or MOT, you have to go through the hassle of visiting a police station later to show them. This wastes time for both you and the police. With this digital wallet, your insurance documents would be stored as verifiable NFTs on the blockchain, allowing you to access them instantly from your phone. No more carrying papers or digging through emails—just instant, tamper-proof verification whenever you need it.
Step 2: Expand to All Life’s Essential Documents
After starting with insurance, the wallet could easily grow to store passports, driving licenses, MOTs, business certifications, and more. You’d have everything in one place, ready to share and verify with a simple tap. This app would put all the documents you need for day-to-day life at your fingertips, completely secure and under your control.
While companies like Pfpid and Arianee are using NFTs for identity verification and product passports, I haven’t seen anyone focus on consumer-driven day-to-day document management like this. This wallet is designed for practical use cases, where you can prove your identity, vehicle ownership, or insurance on the spot.
Step 3: Integrated Marketplace for Insurance and Document Services
Now, imagine taking this further with a marketplace feature. Users could not only store their documents but also purchase new insurance coverage directly through the app, with the policy instantly logged on the blockchain and added to their wallet. This streamlines the entire process—from purchase to verification—all in one seamless platform.
The app could also support vehicle registration for private sales. When you buy a car from a private seller, you could register it immediately, with the transaction logged on the blockchain and the registration added to your wallet. No more delays, no more paperwork—just instant, secure proof of ownership.

Privacy, Security, and Automated Reminders
Security is a priority, with encryption and multi-factor authentication ensuring that your sensitive documents are safe. The app would also track the expiration dates of key documents (like insurance, MOTs, and licenses), sending you reminders before they expire so you can renew them on time. With the integrated marketplace, you could even renew directly through the app.
Revenue Streams and Long-Term Growth
There’s clear potential for government contracts to help digitize documents like passports and licenses, while small fees could be generated from insurance purchases and renewals. You could also introduce a freemium model, where basic document storage is free, but premium features (like automatic renewals, extra storage, and instant verification services) are part of a paid subscription.
Starting with insurance, this could grow into a global platform for securely managing and verifying all of life’s most important documents.
I’ve got too many ideas to build them all myself, so here’s my free idea of the week—feel free to take it, tweak it, or give feedback! I’ll be posting more regularly and would love to hear your thoughts.
