Free Book on Zero Energy Retrofit

Free Book on Zero Energy Retrofit

Ever wanted to know about low energy building retrofit but were afraid to ask? Myself and Larissa Correia put it all in plain language and simple informative visuals in this FREE book download.  No strings, No cookies, no mailing list!

Below is an example typical G value or G-factor for windows. What are they? I have heard of U Values but what is a G-value and how does it work?

We can use coatings on glass to adjust how much visible light and heat is allowed in. This is useful because many low energy buildings overheat! In the past we have designed for optimal solar gain in winter (still holds for houses), but a lot of houses and offices can overheat particularly in the summer.

So you can specify a coating to give you a low G factor to reflect back the suns energy but let the light in. A low E coating with a g-value of 0.14 means that 86% of solar thermal energy is reflected away from your home or office. Low E coatings can be good for reflecting heat back into your home during the winter improving your energy efficiency. So think about your building application, do you want more heat gain or not? Are those windows facing south and do you have any shading?

The book is full of handy little visuals and plain language just as a basic introduction to low energy building retrofit.

So download it for free and cite us when you use it. Hopefully it will be a useful introduction to the subject and please share
