free as a bird

free as a bird

looking up grounded

a well man regarded

the seagull graceful

suspended mid air

free from company

the grounding gravity

gliding bird single

a figure perfect

the silver grey

gasping squawking

black against blue

the clear sky

watchful person asks

of gentle breeze why

the bird creaky squeaky

cry like take away tray

blown away caught

under sandy boot

empty of grease chips

no chance to turn inland

steering off wind

toward food bins

a flight to not land

to not fish sea

to not aviate thermals

nor navigate channels

steering the fathoms

with orange sea feet

but to die by rudderless

plastic tangled sea-less legs

silohuette of common gull cut against blue sky. Tangled polythene can be seen around the gull's legs
