Fred
I stumbled upon a recording from 1997 when Fred Rogers ("Mister Rogers") was awarded the Lifetime Achievement?Award at that year's Emmys.?In his acceptance speech, he asked the audience to do the following:
(Imagine his smooth vocal tone and slow cadence)
"Would you just take, along with me, 10 seconds to think of the people who have helped you become who you are, those who cared about you and wanted what was best for you in life."
He assured everyone that he would keep the time as he looked down at his watch.
The cameras panned the audience and cut in and out of various misty-eyed celebrities during those 10 seconds.
At the conclusion?of the 10 seconds of silence, he said:
"Whomever you've been thinking about, how pleased they must be to know the difference you feel they have made."
Millions of people were watching that evening's broadcast, and a 10-second clip of that very broadcast is still creating an impact 25+ years later.
Can you image the impact if we all took 10 seconds every day for a gratitude reflection?
