Freakin'? Fix It

Freakin' Fix It

Okay, quit rolling your eyes! This resume hack is going to be easier than you think. I want you to feel comfortable to take your resume and shake it up.

Here are 5 steps to bring life to your resume:

1.     Create a chart broken into 4 sections and title your sections as follows:

a.     Section 1: The Value I Want to Highlight

b.     Section 2: Leadership Traits

c.      Section 3: Impacts Per Positions

d.     Section 4: Influence on the roles/company I contributed to

2.     Structure your authentic career summary from the above responses. This summary goes in the beginning 1/3 of your resume, it can be 3-5 sentences or 1 hell of a sentence. Either way, make sure you articulate how you will shake sh*t up in your next role.

3.     Remove roles that are beyond 10 years. Here is the thing about this hack, if you have past roles that relate to the positions you are applying to, include them. But, include them in a separate subsection either titled “Career Trajectory” or “Relevant Expertise” and bullet point it just like this: Position Title | Company | City, State | XX.XXXX-XX.XXXX

4.     Career Experience should reflect the impacts you’ve held with each role and be sure to show up and show out with your bullet points. It should flow and don’t be afraid to brag if you accomplished things that your competitor couldn’t.

5.     REMOVE YOUR HEADSHOT. Slam dunk that sucker in the trash and never pull it out again. Leave it to your LinkedIn.

See, that’s it we're done. Not nearly as bad as you thought, right? Just say right, it will make this article that much better.
