The Fraud Man

Title: The Fake Call

It was around 9 p.m. Riya was sitting on the sofa, scrolling through her phone. Suddenly, a call came from an unknown number. She hesitated for a moment but answered the call.

—-  "Hello, this is Suman speaking. Do you know Amir?"          

Riya was surprised, "Yes, he’s my close friend. But how do you know about him?"

— " Actually, Amir gave me your number. I urgently need to speak with him, but his phone is switched off. Can you try to contact him? I’m in big trouble."          

Riya got worried. Was Amir really in some trouble?          

— " , I’ll try calling Amir, but he’s not answering. Can you connect him to me?"

— "Sure, but his number has no balance. You do one thing—call me on this number and add me on a conference call. Then I’ll be able to talk to him."          

Without thinking much, Riya did as she was told. Suddenly, a voice came on the call, "Your OTP is 567890."          

Suman quickly said, "That’s for Amir’s phone verification. Add me to the conference."          

Riya still didn’t realize what was happening. She added Suman to the conference and shared the OTP.          

Suddenly, Riya’s WhatsApp got logged out. She tried logging in again but couldn’t. That’s when she remembered that Suman had heard the OTP. In a split second, Riya realized she had fallen into a trap! Her WhatsApp was hacked.          

She immediately called Amir, "Someone called me using your name. Did you give my number to anyone?"          

Amir was shocked, "What are you talking about! I don’t know anything."          

Riya then understood that Suman had checked Amir’s close friends list on Facebook and planned this trick. She was stunned. What should she do now? She quickly messaged WhatsApp support and contacted her SIM card operator.          

After this incident, Riya decided that she would never trust an unknown caller again. She would strengthen her social media privacy and ensure that no one could see her friend list.          

### Lesson:          

Nowadays, scammers easily use social media information to trap people. Sharing OTPs with unknown callers can be extremely dangerous. One should always stay alert and strengthen social media privacy settings for better security.
