Fraud Analyst Training at Forter
Authored by Karin Agajany
What's a fraud analyst, you might ask? Our analysts are responsible for our main product, fraud prevention. Every transaction on our merchants' websites goes through our system, and our analysts are in charge of making sure this system works in the most accurate way possible.
To do so, Forter Fraud Analysts need a deep understanding of the eCommerce industry—not just fraud. They also need to understand how Forter receives and processes data, and how we turn 'dry', raw data into stories, translating into the system's decisions.
Our Fraud Analysts' work is so unique to Forter that we don't expect anyone to have "relevant experience" before landing the role.?
Instead, our recruiters aim to examine whether the candidate has the potential to be a good Fraud Analyst. This typically means presenting brain teasers. We develop specific questions that try to emulate the thought processes needed when looking at raw data to figure out its story.?
This process brings a wide array of people into our department. Our Fraud Analysts come from very diverse backgrounds: we have lawyers, scientists, pilots, psychologists, and more—all at different life and career stages—all working together on the same team. How cool is that?

Once hired into Forter, the Fraud Analyst training takes about two months. We teach everything we know about eCommerce, the payments industry, how legit buyers make purchases, and how fraudsters do. We teach all of this through the lens of Forter's data and show what we do with it, how we can make it work best for our machine learning models, and how we use languages such as SQL and Python to do so.?
Each training class includes ~6-10 new analysts and as the head of training, it's always amazing to see how much knowledge new analysts grow and gain in just a few weeks. Many of them are in disbelief!
After the two-month training, the cohort becomes certified Fraud Analysts, and are off to work! That is, off to fight fraud on behalf of our many customers.
Think Fraud Analyst might be an interesting next step in your career? Apply today! We'd love to tease your brain.
