This is NOT Fraud Advice: But the FBI Thinks this is a Scam edition
The FBI is sounding the alarm: a massive, AI-driven scam wave is hitting iPhone and Android users alike. And this isn’t just another phishing attempt—this is a highly sophisticated, multi-layered "phantom hacker" attack designed to drain your bank account while making you believe you're protecting it.
How the Scam Works
You get a call. The number looks familiar—maybe it even matches your bank’s official contact. The voice on the other end is calm, professional, maybe even urgent. They tell you that your account is under attack. Fraudsters are supposedly trying to steal your money, and you need to act fast to transfer your funds to a "safe account."
?? Red Flag: The scammers use caller ID spoofing to make it look like the call is coming from your bank, tech support, or even law enforcement. This trick is so advanced that even cybersecurity experts have nearly fallen for it.
How to Protect Yourself
? Never trust unsolicited calls from banks, tech support, or government agencies. Legitimate organizations will never ask you to transfer your money over the phone.
? Hang up immediately if you receive a call like this. Then, manually dial your bank’s official number from their website to verify the claim.
? Don’t trust caller ID. Scammers can make their number appear real.
? Avoid calling back numbers from voicemails or emails. Instead, go to the company's official website and find their contact information.
? Turn on scam detection on your phone. Android’s latest update includes AI-powered call screening to detect suspicious calls—make sure yours is enabled.
Your Phone Might Already Be Compromised
These scams don’t happen in a vacuum. Many victims are targeted after their personal data has already been stolen—often through spyware. If you've received weird messages, pop-ups, or suspicious emails lately, your device could be infected. Running a spyware scan is a smart move.
At Footprint, we’re on a mission to protect people from scams and cyber threats. If you have concerns or need help protecting your users, we’ve got your back.
Stay sharp, stay skeptical, and never transfer your money under pressure.
